Tripartite high level meeting: the promotion of intercultural dialogue
[07/07/2008 15:30:00] At a high-level meeting in Strasbourg on 7 July, representatives of the Council of Europe, the OSCE and the United Nations agreed that the promotion of intercultural dialogue and the management of cultural diversity remained among the priorities of their organisations. They emphasised the promotion of ''intercultural competences'' through education as well as the link between intercultural dialogue and conflict prevention.
Participants called on governments to ''take appropriate measures to secure an environment conducive to intercultural dialogue.''
They also declared their determination to strengthen coordination and cooperation and discussed additional joint action in the field of human rights protection and conflict prevention.

[07/07/2008 12:30:00] In his 7 July speech to the meeting between the Council of Europe, the OSCE, the United Nations and partner organisations, the Secretary General addressed the importance of intercultural dialogue. He highlighted the need to learn and practice ''intercultural competences'' and encouraged international organisations to ''move from words to action.''

[07/07/2008 11:00:00] ''These murders risk further aggravation of the tensions in the country,'' the Secretary General said on 7 July, following the bombing which killed four people in the Georgian region of Abkhazia.

Action against discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation
[03/07/2008 09:30:00] The strong attachment of the Council of Europe to the principle of equal rights and dignity of all human beings, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, was stressed during the meeting of the Ministers’ Deputies held on 2 July. Several decisions aimed at enhanced Council of Europe action against discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation were taken.

Online games and Internet services: launch of guidelines
[04/07/2008 12:00:00] New guidelines to promote the respect for human rights in the on-line games and internet service sectors will be launched at a press conference on 9 July in Strasbourg.
The Council of Europe has collaborated with the Interactive Software Federation of Europe (ISFE) and the European Internet Service Providers Association (EuroISPA) to develop this project.
